Update

It has been a long, long time since I have posted anything (besides frames). so this is just a quick post to catch you up to all that has been happening.

In february, I sat for my Medical Coder certification. The test was 150 questions and 5 1/2 hours long, and to add on top of that, the test site was over an hour away in Murray, so it made for a very long day. I was pretty nervous, but I stayed focused and even finished a half hour early. So all I had to do was wait, I didn't have to wait very long, 4 days later, I found out that I had passed with an 86% (you have to get at least a 70% to pass) and was now a Certified Professional Coder.

picture of me as I found out I had passed. Jon had tricked me into thinking I might have failed, so my surprise when I passed was incredible!

After I passed my test, I spoke to my manager about the possibility of getting a pay increase to go along with my new credential. No such luck. While I loved my job, I had to find one that would recognize and value my certification, that would give me new challenges and allow me to advancement.

So began my search for a job. Let me tell ya, not much fun. It is always hard to look for a new job, its even harder when employment is in a slump. I spent about 2 months looking, which I realize now isn't all that long, but at the time, I felt like I would never find a job.

But I finally did, in April I got a call telling me I was being offered a coding position with the Dept of Veterans Affairs, not only was I excited to get a job, but a federal job. Sweet! I started at the beginning of May, so I have been there almost a month and am very happy with it. I work with great people, doing what I want I love to do and getting paid better than at the other job.

We are doing really good and I have the intention of trying to post more often, for anyone who cares ;)

Congrats on the new job and passing your test. I'm sure it wasn't easy, especially if it's 5 hours long!
